Import Data into TrueGrid®

TrueGrid® imports data from three sources: CAD/CAM, polygon data, and pre-existing meshes. You can also import your TrueGrid® command session files.

CAD/CAM and Solids Models

IGES geometry of plane Complete models are faithfully imported from your favorite CAD/CAM or Solids Modeler, ready to use. This means that the geometry may not fit together perfectly. There is no need to repair the geometry before importing it into TrueGrid®. TrueGrid® imports trimmed surfaces and other geometry, in the standard IGES format. The model to the left was built using a commercial CAD system and imported into TrueGrid® as 24 surfaces.

Polygon Data

To import polygon data into TrueGrid®, the data has to be formatted into two files. Below is an example of these files.

Example of the nodal file format:

1, -3.383404, -0.583990 , 2.585073

2, -3.187954, -0.598938 , 2.572747

3, -3.186691, -0.594553 , 2.575749

4, -3.383906, -0.579564 , 2.587889

5, 4.597703, -0.602771 , 2.579074

...

STL Files

Stereolythography, or STL, files can be read into TrueGrid®. There is a standard format for STL data and it can be read in either ASCII or Binary. Find out more about STL. Find out more about how to get surface data for biological geometry.
